Physiotherapy
What is physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy helps restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability.
Our physiotherapy service aims to provide a holistic approach to tackling your injury, which starts firstly with a thorough clinical assessment. From here, we are able to provide an accurate working diagnosis and treatment plan, offering the treatment, exercises and advice to help optimise your recovery. Alongside education, exercise prescription and bespoke sports specific rehabilitation, we take a hands-on approach to rehabilitation. When appropriate we offer joint mobilisation techniques, soft tissue therapy, taping and acupuncture.
We are passionate about guiding you through the process and reassessing your injury to ensure the intervention is working. Sometimes, if things are just not working out, we have the network of specialists to help you onto the next stage of investigation.
What is physiotherapy?
Our physiotherapist’s in Winchester and Alresford believe manual therapy is an important part of treatment used to treat musculoskeletal disorders. Manual therapy includes manipulation, mobilisation, and massage.
Manipulation
A low amplitude, passive, high velocity thrust technique to the spine or peripheral joints. The aim of manipulation is to restore movement, function and relieve pain.
Mobilisation
Similarly to manipulation, the purpose of mobilisation to the spine or peripheral joints is to restore movement, function and relieve pain. Mobilisation is best described as a skilled passive movement which can vary in terms of speed, amplitude and direction.
Massage
The rubbing or kneading of soft tissue to relieve pain and tension. Massage is used to improve function, promote relaxation, aid the healing process and inhibiy motor neurone excitability.
